Campiglia is an excellent base to explore the artistic richness and landscape of the southern part of Tuscany.
Siena is 50 minutes away by car and between 20 to 40 minutes away you can visit the splendid Romanesque Abbey of Sant’Antimo; the Medieval town of Montalcino, famous for Brunello wine; the convent of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, set in a wonderful position between thick cypress woods and clay eroded badlands: the Renaissance, magical city of Pienza, created by a Pope for his love of his birth place in the 15th century; Monticchiello a medieval town celebrated for the Teatro Povero; Montepulciano, “the Pearl of the sixteenth century” with its splendid medieval churches and squares overlooking an impressive view, as far as Lake Trasimeno; the Etruscan city of Chiusi with museum and the Porsenna labyrinth; San Quirico d’Orcia with its Romanesque churches and the wooden marquetry of Antonio Baruli; Vignoni with its two spas and the characteristic square with a loggia around it and thermal baths which were frequented by Santa Caterina. The coast of Maremma, Florence and Perugia is only just over one hour away by car.
